‘Ottawa’ Crosby Barely Edged Kessel in Conn Smythe Voting: Report
Ahead of next week’s draft and the start of 100th anniversary of the National Hockey League this fall, some final intrigue remains from the 2015-16 season.
That would be the business of major awards, to be given out Wednesday in Las Vegas.
Before then, though, a report Thursday by TSN’s Frank Seravalli that the Conn Smythe Trophy voting between Pittsburgh Penguins teammates Sidney Crosby and Phil Kessel might have been the closest in the 51-year history of the post-season award.
There are 18 voters from the Canadian and American media, as well as writers from the teams involved in the Cup final. Crosby beat Kessel 9-7 in first place votes, according to Seravalli, with the other two votes going to Pittsburgh workhorse defenceman Kris Letang.
