‘Ottawa’ Ottawa Champions Set to Face Cuban National Team at RCGT Park
Ottawa baseball fans missed out on a chance to see Trevor Gretzky this week because the Quebec Capitales outfielder is on the disabled list.
But while they won’t get to eyeball The Great One’s son, they will watch a great team on the weekend — as will baseball scouts who have already booked a visit to Raymond Chabot Grant Thornton Park.
As of Thursday, more than 15,000 tickets had been sold for the Ottawa Champions’ three- game series with the Cuban national team that begins Friday night. The same squad played in front of U.S. President Barack Obama during his recent trip to Havana.
“It’s going to be interesting,” said Champions manager Hal Lanier. “We haven’t seen them, but we’ve heard from other managers about some of the players they have.
“There’s going to be a lot of scouts here from the States, I know that.”
While their focus will be on the Cubans, it will be a chance for Champions to catch the eye of scouts, too.
