‘Ottawa’ Canadian Amateur Leader Blair Bursey Trying to Become First Newfoundland Golfer to Win Event
Blair Bursey still has the lead and he still has a chance to go where no Newfoundland and Labrador golfer has ever gone.
After an even-par 70 at Royal Ottawa on Wednesday, the 19-year-old from Gander has a total score of nine-under 203 and a one-stroke lead going into the final round, when he’ll try to become the first men’s Canadian amateur champion from his home province.
“What do I want to do? I want to win. Right?” Bursey said after completing his round. “But I’ve got to let go of that right now. I have a one-shot lead and I have to treat it as if I don’t even have a lead because one shot really is nothing out there with the course setup and all that stuff.
“Eighteen holes to go, one shot is really not much. I’m going to have to put together a really solid round (Thursday), a really good score, and that’s all I can control right now.”
