‘Ottawa’ Ottawa Senators Defenceman Cody Ceci Ready to Roll after Signing New Contract
Soft spoken at the best of times, Cody Ceci sounded a tad under the weather Wednesday as he discussed the new two-year, $5.6-million extension he signed with the Senators.
“Just allergies that came back, unfortunately,” said the former Ottawa 67’s star.
Despite the raw voice, Ceci was in an upbeat mood, ecstatic at finally ending a difficult summer of negotiations. He will earn $2.25 million next season and $3.35 million in 2017-18 and will be eligible for salary arbitration and a potential lucrative long-term contract when the deal expires.
Ceci, 22, who scored 10 goals and 16 assists during an up and down 2015-16 season, also isn’t keen on going back to being a non-playoff team next spring.
While strong individual numbers are one thing — Ceci will likely be paired with former Toronto Maple Leafs captain Dion Phaneuf as part of the Senators’ top four on defence — his chief goal is helping get his team back to the post-season.
