‘Ottawa’ Gunner Right on Target at Sun Scramble
A couple of months ago, Serge Gunner and his wife Julie had their first child, a boy they named Novak.
It was a huge summer highlight — and Gunner had no problem cutting back his golf schedule, which has been limited to 27 games in 2016.
He didn’t show much rust on the golf course on Friday, playing in the Ottawa Sun Scramble’s Open division at GreyHawk’s Talon course, teaming with his sharpshooting partner Martin Carre to shoot a 12-under 60, one shot ahead of defending champs Allen McGee and his 15-year-old son Hunter.
Carre and Gunner sizzled through the first nine holes with a 29 — with seven birdies. On the back nine, they rang up six birdies, with a bogey on the par-3 17th, where they had to play a shot out of the sand. After getting it to 12 feet, they lipped the putt. The round included Carre drilling a 278-yard second shot with his driver on to the green. Carre is a scratch golfer, while Gunner plays at 2.4.
