‘Ottawa’ Team Canada Players think Fans will be Captivated by World Cup Once Games Get Rolling
The World Cup of Hockey will shine, but will it be as good as gold?
That question won’t be answered until early October.
As Team Canada prepares for the World Cup that gets under way Sept. 16 at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, there are many wondering whether the eight-team tournament put on by the NHL and the NHL Players’ Association is going to produce the kind of international hockey we’ve witnessed in the past.
There is no shortage of skepticism surrounding the tourney. That’s partially because the last time it was held was 2004 when Canada beat Finland in the final at the Air Canada Centre. The next day, NHL commissioner Gary Bettman and the 30 owners locked out the players for a full season.
