Accused driver’s aunt involved in deadly love triangle Lover’s wife murdered in 1983
The aunt of accused drunk driver Marco Muzzo was once part of a love triangle in which her lover was accused of murdering his pregnant wife so he could join the wealthy Muzzo family.
Diane Muzzo was having an affair with contractor Joseph Anthony Cecchini in the summer of ’83 when his wife, Sandy, who was eight-months pregnant, was killed by two shotgun blasts to the back as she slept in their Woodbridge home.
Cecchini, now 58, was charged with first-degree murder. He denied he killed his wife with his father’s shotgun. His first trial in 1984 ended with a hung jury.
He collapsed in the prisoner’s box after a jury acquitted him in the second trial.
The prosecution argued Cecchini killed his 26-year-old wife so he could marry Muzzo as a widower instead of as a divorced man.
