Paul hoping to make impression with Ottawa Senators
There will be an early wakeup call for the kids Thursday morning.
Preparing to take part in the four-team rookie tournament that gets underway at the Budweiser Gardens in London Friday, the Senators’ rookies — who will be led by coach Luke Richardson — will be on the ice at the Bell Sensplex at 8:30 a.m. before boarding the bus for the six-hour trek.
With three games in three days starting with Toronto Maple Leafs Friday night at 7:30 p.m., the 24 newcomers won’t have much time to make an impression, especially those who are trying to show they deserve a shot to take part in main camp and maybe get into an exhibition game.
Among those trying to make an impression will be winger Nick Paul, who was picked up in the trade that sent Jason Spezza to Dallas on July 1, 2013. Paul, who spent last season with North Bay, took part in the tourney last year and played an exhibition game in St. John’s in the pre-season.
