‘Ottawa’ Man Dead After Water Scooter Incident in Greater Napanee, Ont.
A 33-year-old man from Greater Napanee, Ont., is dead after he was found face-down in the Bay of Quinte on Saturday as a water scooter he was believed to have been driving circled unmanned nearby.
OPP were called to a public boat launch on Bayview Drive, along the eastern edge of the Bay of Quinte, at about 11:40 a.m. Saturday. Someone had called 911 to report that a possibly intoxicated man was attempting to unload a jet ski at the boat launch, OPP said in a media release.
As officers were headed to the scene OPP were notified that a man and woman wearing life jackets were seen riding the jet ski in the Bay of Quinte.
Nearly 20 minutes later, at 12:05 p.m., OPP were notified that someone was performing CPR on a man at a residence on County Road 9, which also borders the Bay of Quinte not far away from the boat launch.
Autopsy expected Monday
The man had been found face-down in the water after another boater noticed the unmanned jet ski circling nearby, OPP said. A bystander performed CPR, as well as police, until paramedics arrived.
He was then taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The victim has been identified as Ossario ‘Sam’ Hoyte. An autopsy was expected to be performed Monday.
OPP learned that the woman who was with him had been dropped off on shore prior to the incident.
