Vet calls Perley Rideau policy ‘slap in the face’
After 41 years of volunteering at the Perley Rideau Health Centre for veterans, Bill McLachlan said he’s prepared to throw in the towel because of maddening bureaucracy.
The 92-year-old World War II veteran showed up to the gates of the veteran’s home — the place where he has conducted more than 100 funeral services — and he said he was denied access to the parking lot.
His key card didn’t work anymore.
That’s because McLachlan is an unregistered volunteer according to the recently revamped access policy at Perley Rideau.
