Ottawa couple doing ‘Ausome’ thing for autistic kids
An Ottawa couple has launched a plan to provide sports programming for children living with autism.
Liisa Vexler, who launched “Ausome Ottawa” this month with her husband, Derek Firth, said sports have helped her 10-year-old son, who was diagnosed with autism three years ago.
“All the skills they may not have, they (children with autism) can develop through sports,” Vexler said.
Vexler’s son, who plays various sports including basketball and hockey, has learned teamwork, resiliency and leadership through sports, she said.
