Banged-up Blue Jays should be OK for Game 2
It was difficult to tell who was in the most discomfort at the Rogers Centre on Thursday afternoon: Josh Donaldson with his banged-up head, Jose Bautista with his cramped right hamstring or the 49,834 Blue Jays fans with their heart palpitations.
Fortunately for the fans, the injuries to Donaldson and Bautista are not as bad as first feared and both are expected in the lineup on Friday for Game 2 of the ALDS.
Donaldson got kneed in the head by Texas Rangers second baseman Rougned Odor as he slid into second to try to break up a double play in the fourth inning. Donaldson came out on the field for the fifth, but was replaced by pinch hitter Ezequiel Carrera in the bottom of the inning. He passed the concussion protocol put in place by MLB.
“I think he got a little light-headed,” Jays manager John Gibbons said. “Something wasn’t right, but he did pass the test, so that’s a good sign.”
