‘Ottawa’ McGregor, Diaz will be ‘Punished’ for Near Brawl at UFC 202 Presser
It might have seemed like the water bottle fight between Nate Diaz and Conor McGregor’s teams was just a little bit of harmless fun to help promote a massive fight, but it appears repercussions are on the way.
On Thursday afternoon, UFC president Dana White spoke with TMZ Sports and made it clear that both fighters are facing punishment for their role in Wednesday’s chaotic near-brawl at the MGM Grand.
“They’re getting punished,” White said. “We’re overseen by the Nevada State Athletic Commission. I guarantee both of these guys are going to get massive fines and there’s probably going to be a hearing, too, after the fight. There could be suspensions, community service, it’s going to get ugly.”
While there’s no shortage of video of the incident, it’s not entirely obvious who will be held accountable for Wednesday’s incident.
McGregor arrived half an hour late for the press conference, but that’s not really something he should be fined for.
