Fit, healthy, Maple Leafs’ Lupul hopes to bounce back
He may have just turned 32 this week and is coming off one of the more frustrating years of his career, but Joffrey Lupul vows he isn’t done as a meaningful NHLer.
With that in mind, the fit and healthy Maple Leafs forward was talking boldly Friday at the MasterCard Centre, both about his own condition and expectations and a subtle warning for those anxious to script a season of doom with the once again retooling team.
With his peak-performance years potentially dwindling, Lupul has no interest in waiting out a long rebuild. He wants to win now — and who can blame him?
“I think we’ve got the possibility to surprise some people this year,” Lupul said prior to the Leafs’ pre-season meeting with the Buffalo Sabres at the Air Canada Centre. “It’s not going to come easy, it’s going to take a lot of work for us.”
