Furey: Despite poll drop, Mulcair won’t budge on niqab

Tom Mulcair doesn’t seem too concerned with his major slip in the Quebec polls.
“Quebecers know me,” the NDP leader told me in an interview Thursday. “They know that I’m not going to back down on a question of principle.”
Mulcair opposes the Conservatives’ continued attempts to ban the niqab from citizenship oath ceremonies, even though most people across the country support a ban (82%, according to a Leger poll) and support is particularly high in Quebec (93%).
“I do think that once the court has ruled, we have to respect the court’s ruling,” Mulcair said.
