‘Ottawa’ Firefighter Treated for Possible Heat Exhaustion After Barn Fire Near Kars
One Ottawa firefighter was treated for possible heat exhaustion after a barn fire near Kars on Friday afternoon.
Ottawa fire officials received several calls at around 3:06 p.m. reporting heavy black smoke and flames coming from a barn near First Line Road and Roger Stevens Drive.
The barn fire was approximately 50-by-25 feet, extending into surrounding hay bales. The barn contained farming equipment and old hay bales but no livestock, said Ottawa fire.
Firefighters used a defensive attack strategy in order to protect neighbouring buildings that were vulnerable to possible fire spread.
Due to a potential collapse of the barn, firefighters were prohibited from entering it. The humid weather also posed a challenge, with one firefighter receiving treatment at the scene for possible heat exhaustion. The firefighter did not require transport to hospital.
No people or animals were injured.
