‘Ottawa’ Skier Dies During Marathon in West Quebec Due to Cardiac Arrest: Canadian Ski Marathon
A man participating in the Canadian Ski Marathon in west Quebec died while out on the trail, the organization announced on its Facebook page Saturday evening.
The skier, who has not been identified, suffered a cardiac arrest, according to the CSM. Medical staff reached the man in distress, but their efforts were unsuccessful.
The CSM is a two-day, 160-km skiing marathon with groomed trails that stretch between Lachute and Gatineau.
The organization said on Facebook it is mourning the loss of one its skiers and that the man’s family had been notified.
“The entire marathon family and all our skiers are with his family in thoughts and we will commemorate his memory with a minute of silence at tomorrow’s start,” the post reads.
CSM president Julie Boyer could not be immediately reached for comment Saturday evening.
