This has normally been the day to say goodbye. To shake a hand, ask for an off-season phone number, talk about vacation plans.
The last home game of a long baseball season. I never miss them — home openers and home endings. The first game all about hope. The last one all about who’s staying, who’s leaving, who’s getting fired and where are you going to find the next baseman from?
But much like the last two months, this final home Sunday of the baseball season didn’t just feel brand new. It was brand new. Something we haven’t really experienced around here before, so different from the other playoffs teams of the 1980s and early 1990s.
This is the hottest team in baseball, with a likely Most Valuable Player in Josh Donaldson, with a likely Cy Young Award winner in David Price, with a likely executive of the year in Alex Anthopoulos. This is all about moments to remember and athletes to cherish.
