Curtis Glencross chooses to retire from hockey
Curtis Glencross has decided to retire.
In the midst of watching Saturday night’s Battle of Alberta at the Dome with wife Tanya, the 32-year-old winger decided he would give up his pursuit of one last contract.
“I had a great time at the game, and that night, I decided I was officially done with it,” said Glencross, who played seven seasons with the Calgary Flames before being traded to the Washington Capitals at the 2014-15 NHL trade deadline.
“It was tough, but there was kind of closure. I just felt it was the right time to shut it down. (The Battle of Alberta) was one of my favourite games and rivalries to play in, but I want to be a fan and support my friends. I saw the guys after the game and enjoyed it.”
Glencross and most people in the hockey world expected he’d sign somewhere as a free agent soon after July 1, but he ended up being a victim of the NHL’s youth movement ought on by cap issues in many cities.
