Is Blue Jays’ Josh Donaldson a madman, superhero or dirtbag?
So, who is this Josh Donaldson and what planet is he from?
In various conversations following Wednesday night’s series-capping victory over Cleveland, Josh Donaldson was referred to by teammates as a superhero, a madman and a dirtbag. He is all that and more.
He has become a bigger-than-life presence on the Blue Jays landscape. When he is on-stage — whether as a hitter, a base-runner or a defender — you dare not avert your eyes for a second lest you miss the next ‘did-you-see-that?’ moment.
Twice in Thursday’s 5-1 victory over the Indians, Donaldson pulled off plays with his legs that confounded everyone in the stadium, especially his opponents.
In the second inning, standing on third when Troy Tulowitzki hit a high pop-up to the middle infield, Donaldson tagged up and scored on a ball caught by second baseman Jason Kipnis, contorting his body like a gymnast to avoid, by an eyelash, the tag by catcher Yan Gomes as he dove to scrape the edge of home plate with his hand.
