Blue Jays’ Mark Buehrle grinds out win over Rays
Mark Buehrle reached down deep to grind out his 15th win of the season Friday night.
And the door may still be open for him to reach his annual goal of 200 innings for the 15th straight season.
With the help of a prolific Blue Jays offence, Buehrle worked into the seventh inning of an 8-4 win over the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field. He left after 6.2 innings and has now pitched exactly 198 innings this season.
Manager John Gibbons has said as recently as last week that he might be moved to start Buehrle in Sunday’s final game of the season and have him get the necessary innings to give him 15 seasons of double-digits in wins and 200-plus innings.
A number of factors might play into that decision.
Will the Jays have home field advantage sewn up throughout the playoffs? Will Buehrle be able to crank up that 36-year-old arm on less than 48 hours rest? And will Buehrle himself want to slip through that side door to reach his goa
